As depicted from the increasingly encouraging fundraising responses, RSVP is gaining support here in United Kingdom and, more particularly, in Scotland.
Interestingly, such support is also taking place in Rwanda.
For example, the local goverment, in agreement with the Mayor of Rusizi district, will soon officially grant a sizeable plot of land to RSVP. The plot is only yards away from Mihabura primary school.
This site will house RSVP's future development programmes such as modern and lasting classrooms.
Why chosing non-arable land as site for our development programmes?
According to the CIA, Rwanda is a 26,338 km2 land locked country with 90% of its 10,186,063 population classed as subsistence farmers.
Not only is Rwanda one of the highly densily populated countries in the world, but it, sadly, also sees about 450 of its people living on 1 km2 of arable land! The arable land represents 45% of the country's size.
It has been very unfortunate and troubling to see the majority of housing and other development initiatives, including those sponsored by the International Community- i.e. after the 1994 genocide-beeing erected on arable land.
So, RSVP, by seeking to use non-arable land and conquering the skyline, will be championing a new approach to development.
This sounds too basic, and that's perhaps why it has eluded even major International Development Agencies for quite a long time...!
